I began this song during an era when I was often told 'it's been done before' after which era I discovered that much of what this had been said about had, in fact, not been. This should have been done before, if it hasn't and the more the merrier I say. These issues are important. To my knowledge, my father having been adopted during the stolen generation period, I have no indigenous DNA. All other data appears to support this. Therefore I don't feel entitled to write songs of this nature, however due to a shortage of other songs upon the subject, I've written it anyway and beg forgiveness from those more entitled to write such songs and give them full permission to record it and pretend they wrote it if they wish. All that matters is that these issues are 'out in the open' a bit more. |

there is a newer arrangement, with a better arrangement of verses, a
couple of the later ones dropped and the noticable addition of the aboriginal
song, Yamba, as collected from Shirley Fish by The National Library of
Australia. |
