When I recorded my first album, 'Summer Madness' (casually titled by Peter Howell), I was determined to just have Australian songs, either written by myself, people I knew, or folk songs about Australia. The song, Jimmy Clay, met none of this criteria but was so skilfully written by Patrick Skye and sung by Mike Whellans (with Aly Bain on fiddle) that I included it on the album anyway - I'm glad I did because it was another 11 years before I recorded another album and it would have missed out by then. It will always be a great song. |
