Excuse Me

Time contrary to my line in 'Song To Me' which says I think life's too long, seem to pass all too quickly these days. I think the electronic pathways in our brains can begin to spread themselves too thinly in some of us and not only do we lose focus but the focus gets so little air-time that it creates the illusion of time passing faster. We are still living the same time but not so much of it via our conscious brain cells.
Whatever, I found my kids were growing up far too quickly and they of course would have felt that I didn't spend enough time with them. This song is about that and is yet another of my songs that dwells on the concept of living life too distracted to achieve one's initial goals in life despite those goals not changing.

'Excuse Me' won the 1999 Maldon Folk Festival - Roddy Read Songwriting Award which I only entered because I was in town and hadn't had a sing for a few months. I hadn't applied to perform at the festival and although I didn't live in Maldon at that time, I was staying there with my kids for that weekend, so I entered the competition just to have a sing to an audience, to keep my hand in. Then I went home and forgot all about it till somebody came around to my house to ask me to attend the announcement because I'd won.
